Tom,

I would like to agree with the need to avoid destabilizing MapServer as we
move towards a final MapServer 4.0 release.  It is for the very reason that
I have decided to segregate virtually all the FastCGI work into a separate
program ... a copy and edit version of "mapserv".   I also won't be doing
lots of things at a deeper level that I think will be necessary for full
FastCGI support ... just doing what I can at the mainline level without
disrupting the code used for other purposes.  This can hopefully serve
as a prototype for more complete FastCGI support in MapServer 4.1.
