Hey Shane: You're alive, that's good!
Anyway, the speed difference is neglible. In both cases an image is
cached so even for the circle symbol it is only rendered into a bitmap
once. There are more effective ways (indexing, data preprocessing) to
boost performance.

Hi,
I have a question about point symbols in Mapserver. What draws faster:
a
point represented by a Mapserver drawn symbol, or a point represented by
a
png of that same symbol?
Another way to ask that question is, what draws faster: 100 towns each
represented by a SIZE 5 black circle (with SYMBOL "circle"), or 100
towns
represented by png's of a SIZE 5 black circle?
Thanks in advance,
Shane Pittman
