I have to admit that I'm not following all the details of what you and 
Sean were discussing, but I have a very good feeling about what I read. 
I don't really have anything to add, I just think that the changes you 
are doing will also benefit to PHP extensions since they require the 
same type of thread-local globals that your approach should allow. We 
might need something similar for the msIO API at some point to allow a 
single thread to redirect IOs without affecting the other threads.
