MapServer lexer state

Steve, I'm particularly looking for your take on this.  Does MapServer
rely on the global lexer state between function calls?  Or are the
parsing functions atomic?  From looking at the code, it seems that the
latter is true, but so that I don't get caught in wishful thinking I
want to ask the authors.
