Bug 1957, a solution... (sort of)

I've not been able to figure out how to contribute. It's a non-open Open
Source project. There
is no public CVS, no snapshots just an address to report bugs and an
offer of paid support.

Note that I wasn't thinking of a fork (although I have in the past),
rather an alternative distribution
that we could point users at until a new GD version is released.
Autodesk would have to confirm but
I believe all modifications have been offered back to the authors.

If the existing GD guys can't make this a priority -- are they open to

After all -- if we're talking about essentially a GD fork, we're going

to be maintaining it ourselves anyway.
