marker.sym file problem?

Greetings,

I downloaded 3.3.011 and grabbed a fresh copy of the symbol files (from
the new demo)  the other day and I've been having problems with the
marker.sym file.

I've been using mapscript (3.3.010) for a while now with no problems, but
once I began using the new symbol files (both with 3.3.010 and 3.3.011) 
I've been getting the "unable to load/open mapfile error".  I've narrowed
the problem down to the marker.sym file (by commenting out LINE, SHADE,
and MARKER sets as I went along).  I've set all my point features in the
map file to use the default (Symbol 0), but still no joy.

Has anything changed in marker.sym or in the way symbols are handled since
3.3.010?
