national character sets

You have to use gd-1.3 or higher for 8-bit fonts and 8-bit font support.
gd-1.3 comes with ISO-8859-2 bitmap fonts directly, which is fine for the
Central European alphabets (the other users have to fix them for their
national character set). It works perfect with ttf also.
