Bob,
>From the link errors below it looks like you need to add -L/usr/lib to
the Makefile. Find the line what has -L/usr/local/lib and add to the end
of that line " -L/usr/lib" and try make again. I have no idea why you
are having these problems but I think this might get you past them. You
might have other problems down the road - this feels like something is
not configure'd correctly, but it might just be that FreeBSD is just
different.
