Sorry, this one I tried out before, but it does notgive a true hollow
line, 
at least not in 3.5.

What I would like to achieve is a railroad symbol

     xxxxx     xxxxx

which lets the underlying color shine trough. This is especially
important for 
subway lines, which should not show up too prominent in the map.
