Yes, point queries allow you to do this. You set tolerance values for
each layers and can even set the
tolerance units. So for malls you could set a tolerance of 5 km and for
gas stations 2 km and then do
a standard point query that would use those tolerances as appropriate.

can Mapserver perform a proximity search, i.e. show me all the shopping

malls within a radius of 5km and
return a listing of these shopping malls.
