Oops, just realized that the mapserver you're talking about is
probably the basic mapserv.c one; my results were with a mapserver
written using the perl "use mapscript" interface, and some application
specific map creation code around that... so fastcgi makes a bigger
difference (though it'll still save you a lot of churn if you use it,
it'll take some code modifications, albeit simple ones.)
