Kieran,
It is vary simpler to do. Just use a circle symbol and create a roads
at say SIZE 5 and then add any OVERLAYSYMBOL 'circle' with a smaller
size like OVERLAYSIZE 3 and use a different color. There are examples
in the archives and probably on wiki.
