Oh - so I guess I missed the boat on this one. I thought that ArcGIS would
read OpenGIS WMS compliant services. Not so?

Excellent idea! All you have to do is persuade ESRI to support WMS servers
in their ArcGIS clients (or any other clients, for that matter <g>).
