[Mapserver-users] Gmap75 demo - gd - freetype problem

One thing I've learned on RedHat systems when working with anything
requiring proj, gd, gdal, etc. (any of the supporting packages for
Mapserver and several other packages I use which also) is that RedHat
didn't anticipate how *I'd* need to use the packages.
I tend to download and recompile the necessary packages from tarball,
satisfied in the knowledge that I can either do an uninstall, or if it
makes my system truly unstable (hasn't happened so far) I can wipe the
system and start off fresh... and not install the RedHat versions.
Of course, another option is to get the RedHat source RPMs and recompile
with the appropriate options, then rpm-install that way.
If you'll check the archives, within the last week, DM (I think) sent
out a cookbook list for bringing up ms3.7 and associated code on RedHat
8.0 (worked pretty well; thanks!). The same list can be made to work
for RH7.3 as well.
Good luck,
gerry
