[Mapserver-users] automatic generation of location maps

Dear MapServer users,

I would like to integrate a web application with a world map where I can 
automatically place "dots" on the base of some geographical info (e.g., 
city name, long/lat).

The final result I'm interested in is something like this map:

Can you suggest me tools/methodologies to accomplish this task?
