[Mapserver-users] gcc version for mapserver?

Hi,
I am getting following error while compiling mapserver:

ld: fatal: Symbol referencing errors. No output written to shp2img
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [shp2img] Error 1

After checking the archives I found out that this is related to the gcc
version.
I am using gcc 2.95.2
Should I upgrade gcc?

Please help..I am stuck!
