Some better docs will be made available, but I'm not sure what the 
status of this is.  I have created a bug to track this,so you might want 
to add yourself to the CC:

We all liked the 4.0 way I think, but we had to add more checking to 
pass some of the tests in the OGC testsuite.  A note about this has been 
added to the HISTORY.TXT file for 4.2 and the GetMap example in the WMS 
HOWTO will be updated as well (bug 622).
