Unusual problem with TrueType fonts

I'm also having the exact same problem.

I tried using Unicode font without much success. I found an explanation
about how to do it with PostgreSQL but this is not an option for me since I
don't use PostgreSQL.

I thought about a different solution - maybe to create a new BITMAP font by
myself? But how can it be done?
