Folks,

I already answered Tony privately (I think!) but the answer to this is
that MapServer's raster renderer does not provide any interpolation methods
when oversampling (showing zoomed in) layers.  That is, when zooming up an
image pixels are just replicated, not interpolated.  It would indeed be nice
at some point to offer various kinds of interpolation or resampling kernels.
In GDAL's warper I have bilinear, and cubic resampling kernels that would
be nice to have in MapServer too.

If anyone is interested in funding such work, I am sure it could be
done fairly quickly.
