Liz,
At DM we have a large PHP based application (Maplab) that is currently
morphing into a chameleon application. The approach we are using is to
have individual chameleon applications embedded in popup windows or
frames within the PHP-based application shell. Since the entry point of
a chameleon application is a PHP page, this is relatively
straightforward; the php session or javascript can be used to
communicate between the different parts of the larger application.
I'm not sure if this is appropriate for your application, but it's
something to consider if you want to take advantage of the best of both
worlds.
