[Mapserver-users] Populate HWY Symbol with Field Text & Where to Get Mexican HWY Symbols

I think I misunderstood your question. Sounds like you want the text as
part of the symbol, not a label for the symbol. AFAIK you cannot do this
automatically.  But you can overlay one symbol on top of another. If you
have a limited set of labels you could create some pngs with the same
text as your label and use your field as a CLASSITEM to overlay the
proper one.
