to calculate distance between two point data

hello...
        i am working upon a GIS project using PHP-mapscript and mapserver.Now i
need to calculate the distance between two point type data of the mapserver
generated map .

        But i don\\\'t know how to proceed and that\\\'s why want your attention.

        Any suggesation and code will be greatfully accepted.
