problem with gd

GD is a graphics library.  I'm fairly certain that mapserver uses it
to actually draw the maps, so it's pretty important.

Did you install gd as a package or from source? If as a package, did
you install gd-devel as well?  If you give some details for your setup
as well as the ./configure command you're using on mapserver, we might
be able to help a bit.
