use of LOG directive in MapScript

Hi,
 
I wanted to know if the use of LOG directive in MapScript works.
 
 
I have the following in my mapscript, but logging does not seem to work
 
 
# WebObj
    mapObj.debug = mapscript.MS_ON
    webObj = mapscript.webObj()
    webObj.log = 'mapserver.log'
    webObj.map = mapObj
