(New User) Error when initializing the demo map

Hello

I am new to MAPSERVER and have just installed it on the lates version of
SuSe.

The error I have received is "getString(): Symbol definition error.
Parsing error near (none):(line 44)"

If anyone has some guidance with this to help me get off the ground would
be greatly appreciated.
