more wind barbs problems

How do I set the angle of the wind barb character?

I tried 

$class = $layer->getClass(0);
$class->label->angle = 45;
....
$point->draw($this->map,$layer,$this->image,0,'ã');    
$this->map->drawLabelCache($this->image);

The angle is unchanged.
