actually the data is an ESRI Shapefile. I just used ogrinfo to check if the
shapefile/dbf/etc. survived the hard and stony ftp-way to the server 8~)

Meanwhile I tried to put some other point-based annotationlayers into my
mapfile and it seems as if they don't work either. On the other hand, I've
got a queryable pointlayer with symbol and label which works fine. The
main-difference between the working and the non-working layer in my snippet
was, I think, the working one was a polygon-layer.

Maybe I'll try to convert my shapes to *dgn, which is the format, most of
the other data is in.

... I'm in the mood for trying anything, just to get it to work...

So, if anyone has some other ideas ...
