Aaron,

MapBuilder (http://mapbuilder.sourceforge.net) includes
JavaScript implementations of a number of common
projections, I'm not sure if this includes orthographic.   I
would suggest checking there, and talking to Mike Adair
if you need additional support.   I believe he does all
the projections related work on MapBuilder.
