Flavio / Giorgio,

To follow up on my own post, Howard has advised me that
"TRANSPARENCY ALPHA" on the layer is the solution to this
problem.  I have issue an FAQ on this topic on the new web site.

However, I am leaving the bugzilla entry open for this as I think
a better (more automatic) solution is desirable.
