Joe,

To the best of my knowledge the mysql/mygis support in mapserver
has not yet been removed though it is possible it has rotted a bit
with disuse.

Also, the bold can go ahead and use a nightly snapshot of GDAL/OGR to
get the new mysql spatial support right now.
