Workshop demos not working

Greetings,
I just installed mapserver 4.6.2  (on SuSE 9.3) and I'm having trouble 
getting the Workshop demos running.  When I select the first four demos 
(basic, add second scale bar, add pan controls, and add frames, the page 
I get has a big grey box where the map should be.  However, the last 
demo, dhtml rubber-band box, works just fine.  Any suggestions will be 
gratefully appreciated.
