Suggestions for street finder examples

I am new to map web servers, but have some HTML, C/C++
under my belt.

My target is to develop a street finder and point
finder intranet / internet site with ESRI shapefiles
(one with streets, and one with points of
interest)that I already have.

I have been searching and found some usefull stuff,
but am sending this email to find out if anyone can
point me in some direction that would make life much
easier.! :)
