shapes to MySQL

Hi,

I have been looking for info about migrating my
shapefiles to MySQL but I can't find anything. Is it
possible to convert all my shapefiles to MySQL and
draw layers using MySQL access?  I need it to improove
speed. My application uses mapscript with php.
