Sounds like you may have run into this bug:
http://bugzilla.maptools.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1409
I think new binaries have been put on the MS4W site. These binaries have
been compiled differently from the Dmsolutions ones, so be careful you
don't mix DLL's.
