the libgdal.so.1 exist, ls /usr/local/lib/libgdal* gives:
/usr/local/lib/libgdal.a  
/usr/local/lib/libgdal.la  
/usr/local/lib/libgdal.so  
/usr/local/lib/libgdal.so.1  
/usr/local/lib/libgdal.so.1.13.0
