Thanks, Jody.
If my vote hasn’t yet been registered as a committee member – I believe I was a community member when the motion was made – please note me as a +1.
Thanks, again.

Subject: [Marketing] Moving email list to https://discourse.osgeo.org
Dear marketting committee,
I made a motion last month to move the <mailto:marketting at lists.osgeo.org> marketting at lists.osgeo.org email list to discourse.osgeo.org <http://discourse.osgeo.org> . The motion did not pass, but it did not fail either. Instead it did not get sufficient response :)
For those who did not respond how can we help? The other topics (accepting new members) got sufficient response so it is not a case of being too busy...
My own hopes/goals for making this motion are to reflect the casual / outreach nature of the marketing committee.
We have an outreach mandate that involves being available to event organizers, foss4g service providers, and so on .. so this should be a good change?
Switching to discourse.osgeo.org <http://discourse.osgeo.org> gives us an immediate benefit of ...
1. Not being an email list. We can be reached directly using OSGeo user id, GitHub login, any OAuth service ...
Signing up for an email list is viewed as a burden in 2024, lowering the barrier to communication can only be a good thing.
2. Being an email list. There is some procedure for committee members to join a "group" and send/receive email from <mailto:marketting at discourse.osgeo.org> marketting at discourse.osgeo.org. This should preserve the existing workflow for anyone (like me) who does not plan to visit a website.
And the following risk:
1. Moderation: While there is some risk in public communication, especially for something called "marketting" we will need to try this out in public. There are of course block and moderation controls in discourse. There is also a members-only option to limit interaction to those who have "joined the group" (established for email notifications) - but I would prefer to try being accessible to the public first.
Mechanics of transition:
1. Setup https://discourse.osgeo.org/c/marketting discourse; filled with content from the mailman archive history.
2. Associate marketing at osgeo.org <mailto:marketing at osgeo.org> email address with group; this would be used for those interacting like an email list.
3. Update wiki instructions on committee communication
4. During transition marketing at lists.osgeo.org <mailto:marketing at lists.osgeo.org> email list footer would provide instructions liking to wiki above
5. After 1 month shut off mailman, collect e-mail archives that have occurred in the meantime. Apparently OSM took about a month to make the transition.
