Well put, Andrew, this is in my eyes the right way to interpret this, I fully agree.

Thanks for putting this together Ed.

In my opinion the SIG should not claim or strive to be some kind of overarching body for OSM in Oceania, rather it should sit alongside all other OSM parties including individual contributors and the wider community. Participation in the SIG should be optional for the OSM community and the SIG should not be an arbitrator for the community.

So while the SIG can set it's own strategic directions and undertake activities to deliver on those goals, it shouldn't dictate that others in the community need to follow this.

Even if the SIG wanted to go further, it simply doesn't have any authority to, so I think this needs to be very clear in the scope.

I'll make a few more comments on the doc.

Hi everyone,

I have put together a charter<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1RzMq3p4VAENBkvl1pWIXom4oP6A_j_5EqI7DB_4n0xA/edit#heading=h.8miip2ytol17> for the OpenStreetMap SIG. I have been referring to it as the OpenStreetMap Working Group (OSM WG), but perhaps these terms are interchangeable.

The charter is fairly straight forward and hopefully captures the discussions that we as a community had in July & August. I invite others to contribute, keeping in mind the obligations the OSM WG would have as a Special Interest Group. These obligations have been outlined by the board here.<https://drive.google.com/file/d/1U3R3wSHR9jo9VgywmAQqKswrylwjxw9-/view>

Thanks,

Ed

Edoardo,
It is here ( in the public, shared OSGEO Oceania folders).

We could put it to the wiki – Alex, do you have edit rights?

Sure Alex, this is something we can put together.

Can someone please link me to the latest version of the SIG guidelines? Perhaps it could be added to the OSGeo Oceania wiki<https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Oceania> as well. The one I am looking at is from August.

Hey Ed and Andrew

Since we have the OSM agreement all signed and sorted, do you think we can move forward with making OSM a formal special interest group of OSGeo Oceania?

We just need to develop a brief charter between us and it's done!

Cheers,

Hi Martin,

The QGIS one is in a position where it can be put out for comment.

I didn't want to float it in the lead up to the conference in case it got lost among the conference talk.

I'll post something on the OO list this week regarding that the charter is open for community input.

Andrew

Dear SIG proposers ( and the community at large),
I am just following on this email from about a month ago, to nudge/check on activity with respect to the constitution of SIGs.

The guidelines are ready for your charters. Please, do not hesitate to ask for more inputs/questions if there are any. It would be good to see the momentum not abate on these.

Subject: [OSGeo Oceania] OSGEO Oceania SIG Charters (OSM and QGIS)
Dear QGIS and OSM SIG proposers, and any other community members that are interested to establish a SIG.

The OSGEO Oceania Board has approved the SIG guidelines, circulated on this list previously for public consultation. This means that OO is now ready to consider the SIG charters and finalise the formation of (at least) the first 2 sigs that have been discussed.

I would like to encourage you to finalise the draft charters and any other documentation you would like to attach, and send it for approval to the board. It would be great to get these SIG operational.

There is no particular timeline, but we are all keen to not lose momentum.
It may be good to circulate these Charters on the oceania list too, for comments.

Thanks,
Martin
