Hi OSGeo Oceania community - relaying upcoming board election news to the
current public record and archive of OO activities, with some de-tracked
links to documents (numbered in text, listed at the bottom).
I have one small request for the board - please find an alternate / more
descriptive term for describing the timeline event occurring on 5 July.
Thanks!
And also a big thanks - the effort to empower non-Australians to be part of
the board is fantastic!

Election timeline and assistance to non-Australian citizens
----
We are releasing the election timeline for the 2025 election. The timeline
is similar to past years although slightly extended with one significant
exception below. The full timeline can be found here [1] and a simplified
summary is available here [2]
You may make suggestions by adding comments to the documents or emailing
admin at osgeo-oceania.org. Feedback closes 15 July.
Support to non-Australian citizens
---
To sit on the board of OSGeo Oceania, you are mandated to be a Director
with an Australian Director ID. For Australian citizens, this is a 10-15
minute process with zero cost to obtain the Director ID.
For those outside Australia, the time delays by government are extensive
and there are costs that are incurred.
The board recognises that the election timeline, the length of time to
issue a director ID and the associated cost reduces the ability for those
outside Australia to be part of the Board and thus, the Board is skewed
when looking at country make up.
This year, we would like to invite a number of Non-Australians to gain
their Director ID. The board will assist you in understanding the process
and your requirements as well as providing for any out of pocket expenses.
How to apply to be part of the Director ID program
To be part of this initial program you will need to be
- committed to FOSS4G/OSM and wanting to further these in Oceania,
- a resident and citizen of a country in Oceania or Timor Leste
- prepared to volunteer to work on the board for two years and to
contribute regularly,
- fill in the application form [3] and
- understand that the election is open and there is no guarantee of being
elected
Before applying, please consider reading this Director duties overview [4]
The board recognises that there is a significant number of fantastic
individuals throughout Oceania, including Australia, and we hope that you
consider becoming a board member.
Reminder - OS directory project
