[OpenLayers-Dev] Popup background and font colors

Hi!
I am new to openlayers and I have used the OpenLayers.Layer.Text function to
populate the map with markers. The popups however have a white background
with ,whats worse, a transparent font. This means that the text is almost
impossible to read. 
My question is: How do you change the style of the popup eg the font color?
I have tried adding font color='red' in my textfile and I believe I can see
the red color momentarily but then the font is transparent again.
