 I should also declare that the given Firebug output only happens when
 bypassing the browser cache. In Firefox on Mac OS X use CMD + SHIFT + R.
 (If i remember correctly it was CTRL + F5 on Windows)

 The problem though, the fact that the base layer draws twice, is not fixed
 by setting good cache headers on tiles. It just makes the problem less
 apparent.
