[OpenLayers-Users] openlayer, mapbuilder, geoserver

It seems to me the the question of what is getting measured is very 
relevant to this discussion.

1) Start of request to end of fulfillment of the request
2) Start of request to start of fulfillment of the request

OpenLayers has the perception that it is faster because like many web2.0 
clients it is all about activity. If the user can see activity they are 
less likely to perceive it has waiting. If I can see the tiles being 
loaded, then I know it got my request and I am watching it be fulfilled. 
If I am looking a a blank script or my old screen for a long time my 
mind wanders and I wonder why I am waiting.

When you are looking at OpenLayers are you looking at tiles, untiled, 
pre-cached tiles, etc. These different options can make HUGE differences 
in response times.
