[OpenLayers-Users] Displaying text when hovering over Control

I would like to display some information to assist users by dynamically
displaying help text in an external div. The tooltip solution, using the
"title" property, does not fit my requirements here. I have tried numerous
ways to attach a "mouseover" event to the control but to no avail. Must be
missing something obvious so any help appreciated!
