The best thing to do is to use some developer tools within the browser you
are developing on, and watch to see what happens when you call the
GetFeatureInfo.  All 3 major browsers support debugging, although Chrome and
Firefox (Firebug) are much better at it than IE.  You may find you have the
same-policy-origin error that bugs so many, in which case the proxy is not
working for you.  Also, try to retrieve data within the Layer Preview within
Geoserver and make sure that is working before you try to debug in the
Openlayers app.
