Phil,

Thanks for your response.  I have been reviewing the results in Firebug
under the DOM tab, and in fact do not see the addFeatures.  I guess the
addFeatures should show up under the control?

Can you see in firebug whether the addFeatures is being executed? The
drawing is being done by OL using the GML in event as a vector source and
should pick up whatever styling you have done from the vector layer. 
I'd follow the code very carefully in firebug and see what is going on.
