[OSGeoJapan-discuss] News: GDAL now has the ability to encode Shapefiles (DBFs)

Hello friends,

I think this recent change (yesterday) to GDAL could have a big impact 
to the community, so I wanted to let everyone know:

It needs testing and feedback of course, and think this community can 
help :)

I think an example is something like the following, but I'm sure someone 
can correct me if I am wrong:

    ogr2ogr -f "ESRI Shapefile" output.shp input.shp -lco ENCODING=SHIFT_JIS

If you are able to test with GDAL 1.9dev it would be great to have 
feedback, either through this mailing list or in the ticket 
(http://trac.osgeo.org/gdal/ticket/882).
