I'm not sure if I sent you a link for The Climate Challenge Integration 
Plugfest (CCIP) previously known as the Geospatial Integration Showcase. 
(to be launched at FOSS4G 2009)

It should be a perfect platform for GISVM.
What we should be considering now, while we create our examples for a 
meta package, is slotting in scenarios for this Climate Challange 
Integration Plugfest.
