R-sig-geo (Which I'm on) is a mailing list that corresponds to the CRAN
Spatial Task View. Massimo and I chose from this list for the current
installer. I have been in discussions with some developers who are more
familiar with all the packages to help us refine the list to only the
most common/broadly useful packages.
I'll let you know what comes of that.
Starspan... I know the authors directly (same university). I will check
with them on the status of their project as it was undergoing major
changes fixes in recent times.
