[Live-demo] allowing ssh connections

I have installed the LiveDVD 4.5 FOSSGIS Master onto a new machine
using the installer option at boot time
the machine reboots into the Live system as expected
it is on a local network with DHCP, so it gets an address as expected

however, when I go to ssh in from another machine, I get

    connection closed by <addr>

I check that openssh-server is installed, which it is..
hmmm... checking iptables shows no rules defined
so I try

iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport ssh -j ACCEPT

listing iptables rules shows the new rule, but
now, ssh from another machine returns

Read from Socket failed: Connection reset by peer

Oh Yeah - the wiki FAQ !
so I go to .. hmm where is it?? hunt around the wiki for the right
combination of
Live Demo keywords

then, in the ssh part of this FAQ I see the part about keygen
I build an rsa and dsa style key as shown and reboot the machine from
the hard disk
but still no ssh connection!?

nmap shows ports 22 80 8009 8080 open

So, there is something simple I am missing?
How can I direct the new Live system to accept ssh?!
whatever this is should *definitely* be documented
