Frankie is getting ready to upload a new version to the Debian servers,
if you were having trouble with libtiff linking please drop by the
DebianGIS mailing list and provide us with known-problematic test cases.

I'm not sure what Alan has planned wrt UbuntuGIS in time frames relevant
to the livedvd build, but as this package will eventually filter down into Ubuntu and UbuntuGIS it will be helpful long term (or sooner) to get as
much feedback as possible.

AFAIU solutions have been implemented at the build level, not with "note the problem and depend on the user to make it work" patches.
