Just to clarify, recent versions of GeoServer do support PostGIS 2.0.
The above was just an explaination about how GeoServer supports PostGIS
versions between 1.2 and 2.0 by recognizing
the version of the DB it's hooked against, and issuing the right SQL
accordingly
